Obituary for Eugene Oliver Broughman, Jr. Eugene Oliver Broughman, Jr.
Selma Native Was U. S. Army Veteran, Retired Civil Engineer

Eugene Oliver Broughman, Jr., age 75, of 5385 Blackwater Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia, died Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital in Virginia Beach.

He was born February 4, 1941 in Selma, Virginia, to the late Eugene Oliver Broughman, Sr. and Jeannette Stewart Broughman.

He served in the United States Army for thirty-three years, including three tours in the Vietnam War, and was a retired civil engineer of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

He was a graduate of Radford University and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a life member of the VFW Post 4809 of Norfolk, a past All American Commander of VFW Post 4809, a past Commander of District 2 of VFW, and a past Grand Commander of the Virginia Military Order of Cootie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Broughman.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Margaret "Patsy" Broughman of Virginia Beach; four daughters, Carol Moore and husband, Ricky of Spotsylvania, Jeanne Tucker and husband, Bobby of Clifton Forge, Karen Johnson and husband, Paul of Houston, TX, and Kimberly Wheat and husband, James of Virginia Beach; two sons, Jason Johnson of Virginia Beach and Randall Broughman and wife, Heidi of Waynesboro; four sisters, Thelma Beverly, Diane Mason, Bonnie Terry, and Lottie Dickerson; his step mother, Thelma Broughman; fifteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Tom McHenry officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by members of the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Pallbearers will be James Moore, Dustin Estes, David Moore, Jeffrey Wheat, Joseph Wheat, Daniel Johnson, Garrett Broughman, and Nick Broughman. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, P.
