Alleghany County Native Was Iron Gate Baptist Church Member; Worked With Jane Colby

Phyllis Persinger Muterspaugh, age 78 of 4213 Nicelytown Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Sunday, August 28, 2016 at her residence.

She was born February 21, 1938 in the Rich Patch area of Alleghany County to the late John I. Persinger and Clara P. Persinger.

She was a member of the Iron Gate Baptist Church and a former member of the Sharon Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

She loved her flowers, her flower garden, enjoyed working puzzles and collecting cookie jars.

She was a retired machine operator with Jane Colby. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jesse Persinger and her sisters, Ruby Armstrong, Nilda Tucker, Blanche Wolfe, Susie Tingler and Sadie Wetmore.

She is survived by her husband, Boyd W. Muterspaugh; two daughters, Anne Crush and husband, Ray of Clifton Forge; Jeannie Wade and husband, L.A of Fredericksburg; three sons, Dale Muterspaugh and wife, Brenda of Clifton Forge, Dean Muterspaugh and wife, Kathy of Salem, and Danny Muterspaugh and wife, Stephania of Richmond.

Surviving are her grandchildren: Zac Crush, Matt Crush and wife, Elizabeth; Eli Crush; Wyatt Simmons and wife, Nicole; Ben Simmons; Ryan Muterspaugh and wife, Emily; Erin Clark and husband, Chris; Robin Powell and husband, Ryan; and Mason, Grant, Kristen, Roger, Richard and Bryan; twelve great-grandchildren: Kylie, Caleb, Annie, Macy, Kenley, Kylee, Megan, Abbi, Gwen, Ben, Gracie and Arielle; along with a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held, Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home with the Reverend W. Pembroke Hall officiating.

Interment will follow in the Central Advent Christian Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Zac, Matt and Eli Crush; Ryan, Roger and Richard Muterspaugh, and Wyatt and Ben Simmons. Alternate pallbearers will be Mason Muterspaugh, Grant Muterspaugh, and Bryan Ruff.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Nicely Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P. O. Box 637, Clifton Forge Virginia 24422.
