Former Nursing Home Assistant Dies At Age 74

Dorothy Sophronia Patterson Southers, age 74, of 104 Walton Church Lane, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Sunday, October 2, 2016 at her residence.

She was born January 13, 1942 in Clifton Forge to the late Monroe and Lillian Lorraine Larman Patterson.

She was a homemaker and also worked as a nursing assistant for the former Taylor Nursing Home.

She was an active member of the Living Stones Ministries, and a member of the prayer team at the church.

She loved to help people and frequently donated to various charities.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Higgins and a sister, Patsy Flecenstein.

She is survived by her husband, Dale Cameron Southers of Clifton Forge; four daughters, Leona Persinger of Washington, Katherine Brown and husband, Tracy of Clifton Forge, Tina Persinger of Clifton Forge and Melissa Reid and husband, Billy of Minnesota; a son, Marshall Persinger and wife, Leslie of Clifton Forge; a step son, Shawn Lawson of West Virginia; a sister, Jean Hippert of North Carolina; a brother, Monroe Patterson and wife, Leona of Clifton Forge; sixteen grandchildren; a number of great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Jamie Brown, Teresa Lawson, Rick Crawford, and Robert and Vicky Morgan.

In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Living Stones Ministries, Clifton Forge with Pastor Mike Rollins officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is handling arrangements.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Living Stones Ministries, 100 Griffith Road, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
