Rockbridge County Schools Bus Monitor Was Goshen Baptist, Methodist Church Member

Marjorie June Aldridge Smith, age 83, of 182 Big River Road, Goshen, Virginia died Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at her residence.

She was born November 9, 1932 in Alleghany County to the late Ezra Porter and Dolly Unroe Aldridge.

She was a bus monitor for Rockbridge County Public Schools and attended both Goshen Baptist Church and Goshen Methodist Church.

She was a Redskins fan who was fun loving and a pleasure to be around. All who knew her enjoyed her company.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison Benjamin "Junior" Smith, Jr.; a son, Benny Smith; a sister, Virginia Fridley; and two brothers, Charles Aldridge and Cecil Aldridge.

She is survived by a daughter, Darlene Nycum and husband, Larry, of Bath County; a son, Greg Smith and wife, Cindy, of Millboro; two granddaughters, Heather McCormick, and husband John, and Holly Nicole Moore; four great grandchildren, Jamie Ingram, Mary Jane Ingram, Jasmin McCormick, and Audree McCormick; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Scott Reese and Reverend Lloyd Via officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 3:30 p.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Goshen Rescue Squad, 9770 Maury River Road, Goshen, VA 24439, the Goshen Fire Department, 142 Main Street, Goshen, VA 24439, or to the Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers Street, Lexington, VA 24450.
