Alleghany County Native Worked With Kmart

Bertie Cline Givens, 93, of 516 E. Kline Street, Covington, Virginia died Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at her residence.

She was born May 21, 1923 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Joe and Bertha Cline.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in the death by her husband, Samuel T. Givens, Sr. in 1979; two daughters, Ruby Weese and JoAnn Gibson; a grandson, Josh Wells and five sisters and two brothers.

Mrs. Givens was employed by the former K-Mart in Covington for a number of years.

She was a member of Solid Rock Ministries that she loved dearly and served as the church secretary for over 40 years.

She loved shopping and taking family trips.

Surviving are four daughters, Bertha Wells and husband, Larry of Danese, WV; Kathy Gibson and husband, Vance of Covington; Louise Ruble of Salem, and Nancy Phillips and husband, Buck of Covington; two sons, Samuel Thomas Givens, Jr. and Greg A. Givens and wife, Nancy, all of Covington; two sons-in-law, David Weese and Buddy Gibson and wife, Carlene, all of Covington; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Ernest Sizemore of Clifton Forge.

The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2016 at the Solid Rock Ministries with Pastor Pam Irvine officiating.

The interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Givens' grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be Saturday evening, October 15, 2016 at the Arritt Funeral Home from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and at other times at the the home of Kathy and Vance Gibson, 1210 N. Alleghany Ave., Covington, VA 24426.
