Well-Known Lexington Area Minister Dies At Age 85

Reverend Zeb Carson Williams Jr. of Lexington, Virginia, died peacefully at the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Clinic on Monday, November 14, 2016, in Roanoke, Virginia at the age of 85.

Reverend Williams is survived by his daughters, Allison Williams of Lexington, Va., and Dr. Elisa Williams and companion, Mark Volmer of Cayce, S.C.; son, Colonel Zeb C. Williams III (U.S. Army, Ret.) and wife, Dianna of Columbia, S.C.; brother, Dean Williams and wife, Lori of Boone, N.C.; grandchildren, Dr. Allison Williams of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Zeb Carson Williams IV of Cullowhee, N.C., Jeffrey M. Williams of Charleston, S.C., Julia L. Williams of Columbia, S.C., Alex Parham and Cameron Parham of Knoxville, Tenn.; dearest friend and caregiver, Lisa Lewis of Vesuvius, Va.; and companion, Roberta Smith of Lexington, Va.

He is preceded in death by his parents Zeb C. Williams Sr., and Euna Dean Allison Williams; wife, Sylvia Bates Williams; and wife, Martha Bookout Williams.

Reverend Williams was born on April 21, 1931, in Asheville, N.C., and he was a proud alumnus of both Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C., and the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.

During his fifty-five year career as an ordained minister, Reverend Williams served numerous Associate Reformed Presbyterian (ARP) churches in six states, including both Lauderdale ARP Church and Ebenezer ARP Church in Lexington, Va.

Reverend Williams also served as the Editor of ARP Magazine in Greenville, S.C., from 1975-1980.

Zeb was a devoted father, brother, grandfather and friend, as well an accomplished writer, photographer, and musician, who deeply loved the Lexington area and serving the people there.

A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Ebenezer ARP Church, 788 Ebenezer Circle, Lexington, Va. 24450 with the Rev. Benjamin W. Dowling III, the Rev. Robert Gordon, and the Rev. Bill Harris officiating.

Prior to the service, the family will receive friends at Ebenezer ARP Church from 2 to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ebenezer ARP Church.

The family especially would like to thank the medical and nursing staff at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Clinic for their tireless and loving care.
