Obituary for Jack Elbert Hardy Jack Elbert Hardy
Covington Native Was Edgemont Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church Member

Mr. Jack Elbert Hardy, age 82, of Covington, Virginia died Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at The Brian Center Nursing Care-Alleghany.

He was the husband of the late Margaret Raikes Hardy, who preceded him in death in 1998.

Mr. Hardy was born January 1, 1935 in Covington, a son of the late John Harvey Hardy, Sr. and Norma Golden Hardy.

A lifetime resident of the community, he was a member of the Covington Moose Lodge #610 LOOM. Mr. Hardy was a member of Edgemont Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Hardy is survived by three daughters, Lisa H. Schoppmeyer of Covington, Valerie H. Stepp, and husband, Joey, of Marion, N.C., and Holly Peters and husband, Scott, of Covington; five grandchildren, Holly Lea Ramsey and husband, Michael, Erin Gilbert and husband, Tommy, Eric Schoppmeyer, Ryan Peters, Logan Byer and husband, Shane; seven great-grandchildren, Makayla Gilbert, Brooks Gilbert, Allie Ramsey, Claire Ramsey, Zackary Ramsey, Aubrey Byer, and Cooper Byer; one sister, Mary Hardy O'Neil; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Carolyn Hinkle.

In addition his wife and parents, Mr. Hardy was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester Hardy, John Hardy, Jr., and Charles Hardy; one sister, Lelia Robinson; and a son-in-law, Larry Schoppmeyer.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017 from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Donnie Bowker officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be James Jennings, Charles Bradley, Darrell Hicks, Alan Farrar, and Bert Seay.

Honorary pallbearers will be Berkley Mays, Jimmy Linkenhoker, and W.O. Crawford.
