Obituary for Ira Eugene Fry Ira Eugene Fry
World War II Air Force Veteran Was Longtime Bath County Farm Manager

Ira Eugene Fry, 93, of 120 Spring Mountain Road, Hot Springs, Virginia, died Friday, February 3, 2017 at his residence.

He was born May 26, 1923 in Bath County, Virginia, the son of the late Pleas Alexander Fry and Sadie Gertrude Irvin Fry.

Mr. Fry retired from Meadow Lane Farm, where he was the manager for over 40 years.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, having served in the European Theatre during World War II.

Mr. Fry was a member of Ashwood United Methodist Church and the VFW Post 4204. He was a carpenter and craftsman, who built many things throughout the area.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. He loved to attend any and all of the Bath County High School sporting events.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Gladys Mae Henderson Fry, who preceded him in death on June 7, 1997.

He is survived by two children, Becky Lewis and husband, Dale of Glen Allen, Virginia; Kathy Fry of Bacova, Virginia; three grandchildren, Chris Shelton of Henrico, Virginia, Stephanie Kassab and husband, Curt of Glen Allen, Virginia and Corey Shelton and wife, Marisa of Ellenton, Florida; four great grandchildren, Skylar Shelton, Caylee Kassab, Addison Shelton and Tinley Shelton; two brothers, Bobby Fry and wife, Cookie and Basil Fry and wife, Aldene, all of Hot Springs; a sister, Marie "TeDe" Cleek of Warm Springs, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Phyllis Sullivan, Ann Coleman and Mildred Kenney; three brothers, Harold Fry, Pleas Fry and an infant brother.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 10, 2017 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Pastor Lorrie Aikens and Pastor Frank Neff officiating. Interment will be in Union Chapel Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by VFW Post 1033 Curtis A. Smith Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be his nephews and Dr. Veronica Ortiz. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Lindsay, David Stone, Rob McDaniels, Dwight Walton, Doug Hirsh, Harper Wagner, and Russell Woodzell.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home or at any time at the home of Kathy Fry in Bacova.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hot Springs Rescue Squad, P. O. Box N, Hot Springs, Virginia 24445.
