Obituary for Edmund Frank Byer Edmund Frank Byer
U. S. Army World War II Veteran Worked With Hercules, C. B. Nettleton And Was A Longtime County School Bus Driver

Edmund Frank Byer, Sr., 89 of 3717 Upper Rich Patch Road, Covington, Virginia died on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Highland Ridge Rehab Center in Dublin, VA.

He was born March 11, 1927 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Daniel Carper Byer and Mary Fridley Byer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Goldie Byer in 2006 and also four brothers, three sisters, and three great grandchildren.

Mr. Byer served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was an employee of the former Hercules, Inc.

He retired as school bus driver after 26 years from Alleghany County School Board and was employed by the former C. B. Nettleton Inc.

Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Edmund and Barbara Byer, Jr. of Qwinwood, WV; Jimmy and Sandy Byer of Covington and Randy and Penny of Stuarts Draft; two daughters and sons–in-law, Brenda and Skip Farley of Goldsboro, NC and Mary and Larry Bland of Dublin; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 11, 2017 in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Brown officiating.

The interment will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery with graveside rites being conducted by the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Active pallbearers will be Quent Byer, Stacey Byer, Tony Farley, Kevin Farley, Jamie Byer, Bobby Byer, Shane Byer and Cody Stull. Alternates will be Seth Dame and Terry Ratcliffe, Jr.

The family will receive friends Friday evening March 10, 2017 from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at the Arritt Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Jimmy and Sandy Byer, 105 Broken Arrow Lane, Covington, VA.

Memorial Donations in Mr. Byer's name may be made to either Boiling Spring Fire Department and Rescue Squad, 5407 Potts Creek Road, Covington, VA 24426 or to the Cliffdale Christian Church, 4605 Upper Rich Patch Road, Covington, VA 24426.
