Obituary for Norman Denton Wilhelm Norman Denton Wilhelm
U. S. Army Veteran Was Retired Acadia Polymers Mechanic

Norman Denton Wilhelm, 81, of Clifton Forge, Virginia went to be with our Lord Friday, March 17, 2017 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke.

He was born November 1, 1935, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Lloyd Benjamin and Beatrice Virginia Ford Wilhelm.

He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Clifton Forge, a lifelong resident of the Alleghany Highlands, and was retired from Acadia Polymers in Iron Gate after 48 years of service as a mechanic.

Norman was also a veteran of the United States Army, having served from 1958 until 1964.

He was an avid hunter and fishermen. His favorite things included sports and spending time on the Cowpasture River. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parentsm Norman was preceded in death by a sister, Clara Cunningham and a brother, Jimmy Wilhelm.

Norman is survived by his wife of 58 years, Verlie Wolfe Wilhelm; a son, Tim Wilhelm of Lynchburg; a daughter, Debbie Carter and her husband, Joey of Covington; a granddaughter, Kalyn Carter and her fiance J.B O'Conner; a grandson, Christian Carter and his girlfriend, Savannah Beard; four sisters, Phyllis Lawrence, Betty Williams, Susie Brinkly and her husband, Richard, and Alice Deel and her husband, Wayne; a brother, Bobby Wilhelm; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday March 22, 2017 in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge, with the Elder Chris Fisher officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Alleghany Memorial Park, in Covington.

Active Pallbearers will include Tim Wilhelm, Christian Carter, Joey Carter, J.B O'Conner, Jeff McCoy, and Logan Holley.

The family will receive friends and loved ones from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge and other times at the home of Joey and Debbie Carter, 100 Mountain Lake Dr, Covington VA, and following the interment.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in his memory to the Clifton Forge Volunteer Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 419, Clifton Forge, Virginia 24422.

He will be greatly missed by his loving family and all who knew him.
