Secretary For The Virginia State Police Dies At Age 65

Janet Karen Smith, 65, of Lexington, Virginia, died Sunday, April 2, 2017 at her home after a long, courageous, and valiant battle with cancer.

Born March 25, 1952 in Christiansburg, she was daughter of Ward T. Smith and Betty Reed Smith.

Janet loved flower gardening, baby sitting, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Janet was a secretary for the Virginia State Police, and a member of the Lexington Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her beloved children, Jeremy Steven Goad and wife, Terri of Daleville and Tracy Goad Bond and husband, Jeff, of Williamsburg; brother, Steven Ward Smith and wife, Janet, and their son, A.J. of Dayton; beloved three grandchildren: Campbell Davis Bond, Parker Ward Goad, and Avery Addison Goad; special life-long sister/friend, Susan M. Alexander.

A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m., Wednesday April 5, 2017 at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Steve Cathcart officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

"When you remember me, it means that you have carried something of who I am with you - that I have left some mark of who I am on who you are. It means that even after I die, you can still see my face and hear my voice and speak to me in your heart. For as long as you remember me, I am never entirely lost."
