Mrs. Barbara Jean Jones Smith, age 81, of Covington, Virginia, died Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville. She was the wife of the late Elmo McCurdy Smith, Jr.

Mrs. Smith was born May 23, 1935 in Bluefield, WV, the daughter of the late Samuel and Leticia Jones. She was employed as an X-Ray technician by the former Alleghany Memorial Hospital.

Barbara was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Smith is survived by Preston Kerr Smith and wife, Sherry Burnett, of Troy and Wayne Neal Smith and friend, Shannon Moore, of Covington; one daughter, Laura Smith Sadler and husband, Thomas, of Danville; four grandchildren, Sara Caitlan Booze and husband, Craig, Olivia Paige Smith, Haley Danielle Smith and Sheridan Paige Smith.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by one sister, Kathryn McCormick, of Staunton; and two brothers, David Jones, of Reston and Stephen Jones, of Hinton, WV.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Alleghany Memorial Park with Rev. James C. Slate officiating.

Those wishing to attend the service should assemble at Alleghany Memorial Park.
