Retired MeadWestvaco Engineer Was U. S. Army Veteran, Cattle Producer

Franklin Douglas (Frank) Owens, age 72, of 1711 Glen Wilton Road, Eagle Rock, Virginia, died Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem.

He was born in Wilmington, Delaware on February 7, 1945 to the late Chesney Martin and Hazel Carnal Owens.

He had a bachelor degree in Engineering, served in the United States Army, and was a retired engineer for MeadWestvaco, where he was a former superintendent of maintenance.

Frank was also a beef cattle producer and farmer, and loved his vacations on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Mark Keith.

He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Anderson Owens of Eagle Rock; a daughter, Ingle Owens Schnars and husband, John of Jasper, GA; a step daughter, Susan Griffith Keith of Eagle Rock; two sisters, Judith Owens Rumford and husband, Jim of Roanoke, and Marta Owens Breedlove and husband, David of Pulaski; four grandchildren, RaeAnnah Ruth Schnars, Elijah Curtis Schnars, Alexis Jordan "A.J." Keith, and Morgan Nicole Keith; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is handling arrangements.
