Obituary for Alfred Joseph Rooklin Alfred Joseph Rooklin
Covington Native Was VMI Graduate, Served In Patton's 3rd Army During World War II

Alfred Joseph Rooklin, 96, of Lexington, Virginia, died Monday, June 5, 2017 at Havenwood in Lexington, Va.

He was born September 9, 1920 in Covington, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David H. and Anne Z. Rooklin; brother, Woodrow S. Rooklin; sisters, Natalie R. Doskow and Evelyn S. Rooklin; and his daughter, Sandra L. Paillon.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Jane Rooklin; daughter, Linda R. Petrulias; one nephew; three nieces; and two granddaughters.

Mr. Rooklin graduated from VMI in 1942. He was a "Brother Rat" of the Class of 1941. He served in the United States Army from May 1942 to December 1945 and attained the grade of Major in the USAR. He served with Patton's 3rd Army in all the campaigns across Northern Europe to the end of the war in Germany.

He was a 50-year member of Covington, Va. Lodge #171 A.F.A.M. and Royal Arch Chapter #18, and 32nd Scottish Rite.

He was Secretary-Treasurer of the Rockbridge Chapter of the VMI Alumni Association for ten years.

A Masonic graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2017 at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery.
