Joanna Carswell Callanan Weir, 76, of Lexington, Virginia, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017, while continuing to recover from an illness in Richmond, Virginia.

Born October 10, 1940 in Keeseville, New York, she was the daughter of the late Francis Joseph Callanan and Prudence Celeste Holcombe Callanan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary-Frances Callanan.

Surviving are her husband of fifty-three years, Robert Earl Weir; two daughters, Anne Elizabeth Weir and Mary-Frances Weir Billups, her son-in-law, William Alonzo Billups, III; two grandchildren, Sarah Catherine Billups and William Robert Billups.

She loved her flowers, plants and birds – especially hummingbirds – and found great enjoyment and peace in nurturing them at her home.

She was gracious and giving, and lived life's banquet to its fullest. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to enjoy her friendship and love.

A graveside service will be held at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Keesville, New York at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in loving memory of Joanna to the Rockbridge Regional Library.
