This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad. We rejoice today that God has taken Leo, a beloved husband, our loving father and granddaddy, cherished uncle and treasured friend to be with Him and his entire family in heaven.
Leo Joseph O_Neil, 93, of White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, passed away at home Tuesday, June 27, 2017.
Leo was born March 5, 1924 in Covington VA, to the late Paul Peter and Nellie Marie McCarthy O'Neil.
Mr. O'Neil served with the United States Marines in the South Pacific during World War II.
He was a life-long and devoted member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in White Sulphur Springs WV.
After 40 years of dedicated service Leo retired from the Greenbrier hotel. He managed the Old White Club during the Big Band era and was loved by the many guests, and respected by the employees he managed.
He had the distinct ability to make a person feel that he or she were the only one in the room.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Christopher Michael Deviney; his sisters, Mary Elizabeth O'Neil Robinson, Nancy Katherine O'Neil Mullen and Margaret Rita O'Neil Huff; and brothers, John Raymond, Paul Thomas, Cornelius Vincent and Dennis Francis O'Neil.
Leo is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Nadine, his children and their spouses, Allyson O'Neil Deviney of Greenville SC, Pamela Marie Aide (Richard) of Ronceverte WV, Brenda Anne O’Neil of White Sulphur Springs WV, Christi Margaret O’Neil Lynch (Henry) of White Sulphur Springs WV; four surviving grandchildren, Richard Matthew Aide of Austin TX, Patrick Duane Deviney (Lacie) of Greenville SC, Morgan O'Neil Lynch of Morgantown WV, George Joseph Lynch of White Sulphur Springs WV; and three great grandchildren, Nora Allyson Deviney, Neely Anna Deviney, and little Grey Nadine Deviney.
A celebration of Leo's life will be held 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, June 30, 2017, in White Sulphur Springs, WV.
Visitation will be from 6-8 on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with rosary following visitation.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the devoted O'Neil nieces and nephews, especially Karen Huff and to our loving uncle Bill Huff for their constant care and support.
A heartfelt thank you to Leo's caregivers, Ellen Cochran and especially to Julian Burns. Not only was Julian a caregiver, but he became a loyal friend. His help and devotion was invaluable and because of him Leo was able to enter into rest at his home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Jude's Children’s Hospital or Greenbrier Valley Hospice, 223 Maplewood Ave. Lewisburg WV, 24901.
