William M. (Bill) Mayo Sr., 75, of Buena Vista, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Augusta Medical Center.

Born May 30, 1942 in Rockbridge County, he was a son of the late Gene Mayo Sr. and Garnett Long Mayo.

He was also preceded in death and now reunited with his wife, Mary E. Mayo; brothers, Jr., Bud, and Clarence; and sister, Frances.

Surviving are his three children, Sheri D. Rierson, William M. "Billy" Mayo Jr. and wife, Donna, and Monica Mayo Simmons, and husband, David; 10 grandchildren, Drake, Brittany, Tiffany, Chris, Whitney, Megan, Ashlee, Kimber, Keri, and Destiny; 20 great grandchildren; brothers, Wayne and wife, Estelle, Donnie and wife, Kathy, and Mike and wife, Teresa; sisters, Petie, Wanda, and Ann and husband, Luke; and several nieces and nephews.

Bill was blessed to have such loving and caring friends with whom he spent every Saturday with before his illness: Leo, Peanut, Johnny, Larry, Dennis, Tammy, Melvin, and Sherry.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 3, 2017 at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel with the Rev. W. David Bain officiating. Burial will follow at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, July 2, 2017 at the funeral home.
