Modine Retiree Was Longtime Arnold's Valley Southern Baptist Church Member

Alice Mae Wilson Austin, 87, of Natural Bridge Station, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Lynchburg General Hospital, while holding the hands of her daughter, Kathy and her granddaughter, Tamara.

Alice was born February 2, 1930 in Big Island. She was the youngest child of the late George Washington Wilson and Lou Agnes Goff Wilson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Acie W. Staton, and her second husband, Hawthorne I. Austin.

She was the last surviving sibling in the Wilson family which included four brothers: John Wilson, Lee Wilson, Harry Wilson and Buck Goff; and four sisters, Ola Markham, Daisy Branch, Ruby Goff and Rebecca Jenkins.

Mrs. Austin was a lifelong member of Arnold's Valley Southern Baptist Church, where she loved spending time with her pastor, Donald Stine and his wife, Sherry.

Alice retired from Modine Manufacturing in Buena Vista after 27 years of service. Throughout her career with Modine she made many lifelong friends and always enjoyed attending the picnics and the retirement parties.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Staton Rockwell and husband, Norvin; her granddaughter, Tamara Wood, who is expecting her first child September 26, 2017. Among those mourning her death are her dear friends, Beulah Wilson Ruble, Hester Brads, Evelyn Staton Powell, and many other friends and family members.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Arnold's Valley Southern Baptist Church by the Rev. Donald Stine. Burial will follow at Hunting Creek Baptist Church Cemetery at 4 p.m. Jeanine and Elmer Hatcher will be the hosts of a reception at their home in Big Island following the burial.

The family received friends and condolences on Tuesday, August 8th at Harrison Funeral Home in Lexington.

Memorial contributions may be made in loving memory of Alice to the Arnold's Valley Southern Baptist Church, 57 Baptist Church Lane, Natural Bridge Station, VA 24579 or to the Amherst Humane Society, 318 Shelter Lane, Amherst, VA 24521.
