Former H. O. Canfield, CSX Employee Dies At Age 76

Richard Henderson Deeds, age 76, of 5702 Forty-Two Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at his residence.

He was born January 2, 1941 in Clifton Forge to the late Burie Henderson Deeds and Della Hall Deeds.

He worked at H. O. Canfield for a number of years, and retired as a conductor for CSX Transportation after 25 years.

He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed his flower and vegetable gardens, and loved sharing its fruits with his friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Carrol Ray "Butch" Deeds.

His is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Lois Imogene Layton Deeds and two sons, Richard Wayne "Ricky" Deeds and wife, Lisa, and Philip Eugene Deeds and wife, Diana, all of Clifton Forge; a brother, Edward "Shorty" Deeds and wife, Ann of Wilmington, NC; five grandchildren, Derek Deeds and wife, Breanna, Analea Deeds, Mauri Deeds, Tyler Deeds, and Ryan Deeds; a step granddaughter, Meghan Hurt; two great grandchildren, Kinslee Deeds and Weston Deeds; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church, Clifton Forge, with Pastor John Godfrey, Reverend Lloyd Camp, and Pastor Bill Dillon officiating.

Interment will follow in Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Doyle, Basil Ingram, Brandon Nicely, Brad Day, Raymond "Doc" Thompson, Ron Thomas, Donald Dale, and Kevin Day. Honorary pallbearers will be Marion E. Nicely, Richard Brinkley, Jim Deeds, Earl Higgins, and the men of Immanuel Baptist Church.

The family will visit with friends on Friday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Immanuel Baptist Church, 2819 Douthat Road, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 or to Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P. O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
