Obituary for James Henry Ayers James Henry Ayers
Rockbridge County Native Was BARC Retiree, Excavation Company Owner

James Henry Ayers, 84, of Lexington, Virginia, passed away Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017 at his home.

He was born Sept. 18, 1933 in Rockbridge County, a son of the late James Edgar Ayers and Minnie Mutispaugh Ayers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Johnson Ayers; a son, Rodney Lee Ayers; three brothers, Charles, Hunter and Blair "BB" Ayers; three sisters, Lucille "Lou" Reynolds, Carol "Curly" Eggleston and Juanita "Sis" Bartley.

He is survived by one son, Glenn Ayers and wife, Wanda; one daughter, Shelia Coleman and husband, Greg; five grandchildren, Tammy Rhoney and husband, Barry, Tracy Ayers and wife, Heather, Jamie Gearheart and wife, Christie, Marcella Lee and husband, Dan and Travis Montgomery; five great-grandchildren, Cody Lam, Justin Lam, Peyton Ayers, Luke Gearheart and Dakota Parker; one great-great-grandchild, Brayden Lam; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends Wayne Stuples, Roger Soles and Debbie Knick.

He was a member of Kerrs Creek Baptist Church.

He retired from BARC Electric and from his own excavation company.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15 at Harrison Funeral Home by the Rev. Brian Volpe. Burial will follow at Kerrs Creek Baptist Cemetery. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer, Society 2840 Electric Road, Suite 106A, Roanoke, VA 24018.
