Millboro Resident Was Former Sharon Elementary School Cafeteria Manager

Josephine Carpenter Sydenstricker, age 83, of 133 Hickory Drive, Millboro, Virginia, died Friday, December 1, 2017 at LewisGale Medical Center in Salem, Virginia.

She was born July 20, 1934 in Marlinton, West Virginia, to the late Claude and Virginia Cochran Carpenter.

She was a homemaker and a former cafeteria manager at Sharon Elementary.

She enjoyed puzzle books, reading, dirt track racing and was a wrestling fan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry William Sydenstricker Jr., whom she married on January 31, 1952 and who passed away on December 30, 2008; five sisters, Dottie Agnor, Bonnie Clendenin, Annalee Hammer, Alice Mongold, Junie Baker; and a great granddaughter, Morgan Guy.

She is survived by her two daughters, Cindy Simmons and husband, Ronnie of Millboro, Chip Ingram and Charlie Bryant of Millboro Springs; a son, Charlie Bill Sydenstricker and Linda Woodzell of Hot Springs; two sisters, Mikie Shinnaberry and Zoe Sullivan, both of Marlinton; eight grandchildren, Donald Angle, Missy Guy, Shawn Sydensticker, Joey and Nikki Simmons, Mari and Troy Riley, Allen and Megan Ingram, Sha and Chris Bane, and Lilee Bryant; thirteen great grandchildren, Allen, Joseph, Autumn, Abby, Hayden, Chelsey, Cody, Lexi, Zoey, Kenzie, Karmen, Breanna, Rhaevyn, and Kaylee who is due any day; a great-great grandson, Weston Simmons and a number of nieces and nephews.

In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, handled the arrangements.
