Fairfield Resident Dies After Vehicle Accident

Lois Marie Kershner (Gert) Benson unexpectedly left this earth to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 16, 2017.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmar Edward Benson; her parents, Mack M. Kershner and Ruth O. Kershner, and her sister, Judy K. Brown.

Surviving are her sons, Jeff Benson, and his wife, Amy; and Freddie Benson and his wife, Whitney. She left behind her sister, Mary Lee Walters; her brothers, Mack "Buggs" Kershner and his wife, Joyce; Bill Kershner and his wife, Nancy; Jim Kershner and his wife, Joan; Douglas Kershner and his wife, Lynn; and Rodney Kershner.

She was blessed to be the grandmother of Dalton Benson, Katie Kelton and husband, John; and Kelly Haney and husband, Todd, as well as a great-grandmother to Micah, Gavin, and Jase Kelton; and Hayden, Kennedy, Keeler, and Benson Haney.

She will be dearly missed by her family, many nieces and nephews, countless friends, and her cherished friend, Linda Swink.

Lois was born in Bath County, and lived in Rockbridge County for her entire adult life. She retired from Augusta Corrections and was currently employed part-time at Augusta Health Outpatient Therapy.

She was an active member of her church and took great pleasure in reading and spending time with her family and friends.

Per her request, there will be no services. Her family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her honor to the First Brethren Church of Buena Vista.
