Roy Clyde Southers, 88, of Buena Vista, Virginia, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017 at Kendal in Lexington.

Mr. Southers was born Jan. 4, 1929 in Burgin, Ky., the son of the late William James Southers and Elizabeth Priscilla Young Southers.

Mr. and Mrs. Southers owned and operated Kenney's from 1963 to 1994.

Mr. Southers is survived by his wife of 68 years, June Elizabeth Miller Southers; two daughters, Sherri Southers Wheeler and husband, Leroy, and Beth Southers Slagle and husband, Steve, both of Buena Vista; grandchildren, Joseph D. Wheeler and wife, Jenn of St. George, Utah, Ruthie Lawhorne and husband, Craig of Buena Vista, Joshua W. Wheeler and wife, Alice of Snohomish, Wash., Ellen M. Wheeler of Buena Vista, Joy L. Wheeler of Glasgow, Amy Hostetter and husband Chad of New Brockton Ala., Jason Slagle and wife Shannon of Buena Vista; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Dorothy Trainum of Waynesboro.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, December 28 at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel with Bishop Eric Hanson officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Buena Vista Rescue Squad.
