Obituary for William Bennett Dunlap William Bennett Dunlap
Brownsburg Resident Was Marine Corps Veteran, Architect, New Providence Presbyterian Church Member

William Bennett Dunlap, 87, a long-time Brownsburg, Virginia resident, died Jan. 29, 2018 at his new home with his son, John surrounded by children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was born April 13, 1930 in Newark, N.J., the son of the late Dr. Walter Mebane Dunlap and Helen Bennett Dunlap.

He was married to C. Adair Dunlap and was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church, where he had been an elder and trustee. He was a retired farmer and real estate broker, as well as a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and a graduate of the College of Agriculture at Cornell University.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Deborah Dunlap Shenk of South Burlington, Vt., Sarah Dunlap Shelton and her husband, Bradford of Advance, N.C., and Carol Kemp Dunlap of Lexington; two sons, Thomas Mebane Dunlap and his wife, Pam of Copper Hill, and Dr. John Bennett Dunlap and his wife, Victoria of Greenville; two stepsons, Scott I. M. Mikels of Ashburn and Ross C. Mikels of Front Royal and his two children; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Josh Dunlap and his wife, Amy, along with their children Henley, Riley and Chesney Rae; David Shenk and his wife, Heather, along with their children, Emma and Oliver; Adriana, Elijah, Isaiah, Bennett and Levi Dunlap; and Tyler, Laura and Michael Shelton.

A graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery in Lexington with the Rev. Steve Hall officiating.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory.
