Rockbridge County Native Dies At Age 95

Mary Stuart Coffey Lotts, 95, of Fairfield, Virginia died Sunday, February 4, 2018 at her home.

She was born February 16, 1922, in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Jacob Morris Coffey and Mary Jane Lotts Coffey.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jess Arthur Lotts; a daughter, Mary Emma Lotts Madren; and her siblings, Samuel David Coffey, Ella Cornelia Coffey Groves Clem, Florence Dell Coffey Bateman, James Alfred Coffey, Saylor Marshall Coffey, Lottie May Coffey Steed, Roy Martin Coffey, Salathial Coolidge "Coolie" Coffey and John Henry Coffey. Mary is the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mary was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church and Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church. She worked at Stonewall Jackson Hospital 32 years, most of those spent as an operating room technician. Surviving are her daughter, Jessie Stuart Lotts; two grandchildren, Valerie Lotts Clay and Mary Madren Dole; three great-grandchildren, Samuel Bryant Reubush, Christopher Neil Dole and Jonathan Stuart Dole, and a close friend, Doris Sandridge.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 8, 2018 at New Providence Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Patrick Lanaghan. Burial will follow at Timber Ridge A. R. Presbyterian Cemetery.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers Street, Lexington VA 24450.
