Cathern Vass Smith, 90, of Chestnut Street, Covington, Virginia died Monday, April 2, 2018 at the Brian Center Rehabilitation Center in Low Moor.

She was born February 9, 1928 in Bath County, a daughter of the late Jack and Eva Blanche Loan Vass.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Edward Smith and a brother, Rodney Thomas Vass.

Mrs. Smith was a Charter Member of Calvary Christian Church.

Surviving are three sisters, Helen Carter and Jean Elmore, both of Covington and Darlene Smith and husband, Gene of Henrico; nieces and nephews, David and Shanda Carter of Covington, Mark and Susan Elmore of Clifton Forge, Jason and Erika Smith of Clayton, NC and Teri Soignoli of Henrico; special great nephew, Michael Smith of Covington, and a special friend, Melissa Craighead of Covington.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lynn Wright officiating.

The interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the Arritt Funeral Home.
