Retired Medical Technician Dies At Age 77

Dorothy Benson (Dottie) Reynolds, 77, of 6412-R Ogles Creek Road, Covington, Virginia died Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Lewis Gale – Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor.

Mrs. Reynolds was born August 4, 1940, in Covington, a daughter of the late Robert E. and Vivian Forbes Benson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. "Gene" Reynolds; two brothers, Tommy Benson and Walter Benson; one sister, Laura Benson and a grandson, Travis West.

Dottie had retired as a medicine technician at the former Tanglewood Manor Adult Care in Callaghan. She was a member of the United Baptist Church on Ogles Creek, where she was a fond of the Youth Group. She enjoyed singing in the choir, watching the Washington Redskins and singing alto in the Reynolds family gospel group.

Surviving are two sons, Willliam E. "Bill" Reynolds II and his wife, Martha and Robert "R.J." Reynolds and his wife, Heather, all of Covington; two daughters, Debbie Bowen of Covington and Connie Bouchard of Clifton Forge; her beloved dog, Sweet Thing; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two nephews, Jimmy Spivey and his wife, Debbie of Covington and Barry Spivey and his wife, Tina of Lynchburg and a number of cousins including J.B. Broughman and Darlene Thomas, both of Covington, and a baby brother, Bobby Dale Benson of Waynesboro.

In accordance with her wishes, her body has been cremated.

The funeral service will be held June 29, 2018 at the United Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Tingler officiating assisted by Pastor Matt Taylor.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Her ashes will be buried on her husband's grave in Cedar Hill Cemetery on June 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.

The family suggests that donations in Dottie's name be made to the Youth Fund of the United Baptist Church, 6412-A Ogles Creek Road, Covington, VA 24426.

The Arritt Funeral is handling the arrangements.
