Obituary for Dorothy Hise McMann Dorothy Hise McMann
Former Postmaster Helped Building Airplanes During World War II

On July 18, 2018, surrounded by family, Dorothy Hise McMann, 93, passed away at her home in Lewisburg.

She was born December 30, 1924 and grew up in Mount Solon, VA.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Sadie Hise; her husband, Clifford McMann and her siblings, Tom Paxton, Vallie Stoutamyer and Vivian Moneymaker.

A loving and productive woman, Dorothy enjoyed work and worked hard all of her life inside and outside the home. She officially retired in 1990 as postmaster of Hines, WV.

Later in life, she was honored many times for her role as a "Rosie the Riveter," helping to build airplanes during World War II in Baltimore. After the war, she married former soldier Clifford and settled in Charmco, WV and spent the remainder of her life in Greenbrier County.

While in Charmco, she was a member of the Eastern Star and was active in her community and church. Dorothy enjoyed quilting, crocheting, needlework, painting, golfing, yardwork and creating artful crafts with Clifford.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Lana Martindale and husband, John of Summersville and Karen Davis and her husband, Jerry of Lewisburg; grandson, Mike Martindale of Charlotte, NC; sister, Jerry Trimbell of Bellflower, CA; brother, Willis Hise and wife, Polly of Mount Solon, VA; unofficial son, Don Knott and wife, Frieda of Stuarts Draft, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation for friends and family will be Sunday afternoon, July 22, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg followed by the service at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Ron Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville, WV.

May she rest in peace and rise in glory. The family appreciates the loving support and prayers of friends and the compassionate care of her medical team.

Donations to the Wounded Warriors or The Salvation Army would honor her life.
