Mary Ann Thompson Carter, 72, of Glasgow, Virginia died Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Heritage Hall in Lexington.

She was born Nov. 22, 1945 in Lexington, the daughter of James Leon Thompson and Annie Frances Trussell Thompson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin D. Carter.

She was dedicated to her family and spent her life cooking and planning family togetherness.

After retiring as a machine operator from Mohawk, she enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren and enjoying the outdoors.

Surviving are her children, James W. Carter (Susanna) and Troy D. Carter (Melinda); three grandchildren, Kaleigh Carter (Dustin Smith), Caleb Carter, and Scarlett Copeland; and three great grandchildren, Alyssa, Sophia and Westlynn; and one sister, Sally T. Smiley, (Elwood Divers), a special friend to Mary.

A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
