Obituary for John Sidney Hostetter Sr. John Sidney Hostetter Sr.
Longtime Columbia Gas Company Employee Dies At Age 80

John Sidney Hostetter Sr., 80, of Fairfield, Virginia passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 27, 2018 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

He was born November 25, 1937 and raised in the Timber Ridge area of Rockbridge County to the late Katherine Hileman Hostetter and Robert Mason Hostetter Sr.

He grew up farming, fishing, hunting and playing sports.

On August 25, 1962, he married Mary Elizabeth (Connie) Davis of Buena Vista. They were married for 55 years and raised three children. John worked for Columbia Gas Company for most of his life until retirement. He was also a member of Lee's Travelers Camping Club, the Knights of Pythias, the Blue Ridge Moose Lodge, and numerous bowling leagues through the years. He was an avid sportsman and known to be a fantastic baseball pitcher, bowler, and horseshoe player.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his children, Marla Kay Painter of Lexington, John Sidney Hostetter Jr. and fiancee, Sarah Wade of Fairfield, Donna Marie Lotts and husband, Sidney of Natural Bridge; two sisters, Alice Baker of Roanoke and Lucy Swisher of Stuarts Draft; a brother, Robert M. Hostetter Jr. of Fairfield; nine grandchildren, J.D. (Kimberly), Beth, and Corey (Keisha) Painter, Matthew and William Hostetter, Brody Wade, Katherine, Caroline, and Julianne Lotts; four great grandchildren, John Wesley, Mackenzie, Skylar, and Eliza. He will also be missed by his beloved green Chevy pickup truck, "Old Rags."

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 31, at Harrison Funeral Chapel with Rev. Helen "Punker" Robertson officiating. Burial will follow at the Timber Ridge A.R. Presbyterian Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 30, at Harrison Funeral Home.
