Botetourt County Native Was Korean War Veteran, Retired Modine Supervisor

Clark Thornton St. Clair, 88, of Lexington, Virginia died Monday, July 30, 2018 at Augusta Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born May 1, 1930, in Botetourt County, a son of George Washington St. Clair and Virginia Whitehead Cook St. Clair.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, June Whitaker St. Clair.

Mr. St. Clair attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Cartersville, Ga., and Faith Baptist Church in Natural Bridge Station, but remained a member of Collierstown Baptist Church.

He retired as maintenance supervisor with Modine Manufacturing Co. His hobbies included carpentry work, renovating his own home and those of other family members, and he built scores of wood-burning stoves and inserts for family, friends and acquaintances.

He served in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are his children: Gary L. St. Clair of Natural Bridge Station, Charles T. St. Clair of White, Ga., and Mark E. St. Clair of Casa Grande, Ariz.; brother, Wayne Cook of Roanoke and sister, Mary S. Johnson of North Augusta, S.C.; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Terry Bostic. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
