Sumner Dewey (Sunny) Tilson III, 56, of Waynesboro, Virginia, a beloved father and brother, left this world on Friday, August 31, 2018.

He was born on January 13, 1962, a son of Sumner Dewey II and Lena Elizabeth Tilson.

Sunny had a love of all things outdoors. He spent hours hiking and exploring the sheep farm he grew up on and the love of that farm on Buffalo Creek never left him. He was a star athlete in high school and the pride and joy of his family.

Sunny was a much-loved father and devoted himself to his children, savoring and supporting every moment of their lives. He will be forever missed.

Sunny will be remembered and missed by his three children, Jared Michael, Justin Sumner and Jaci Elizabeth Tilson, all of Stuarts Draft; sister, Lucy (Tilson) Snow of Glasgow; nephew, P. J. McCrowell of Glasgow; aunt and uncle, Sally and Alvin Carter of Lexington; as well as numerous extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 1870 Stuarts Draft Highway, Stuarts Draft, with the Rev. Karen Allamon officiating.

There will be no formal viewing or visitation at the funeral home.
