Martha West Downey, 75, of 5005 Houston Circle, Covington, Virginia died Friday, October 5, 2018 at her residence.

Mrs. Downey was born August 16, 1943 in Beckley, WV, the daughter of the late Wilber and Iris Gay West.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Mickey Arnott.

Martha worked as an operator for the former CFW Telephone Company, as well as she attended Covington Bible Church and was part of the bible group. She loved her dogs.

Surviving are her companion, Billy Rose of Covington; two sons, Mark Crookshanks and wife, Crystal of Covington and Allen Crookshanks and Maria Jaeger of Christiansburg; four grandsons; Chris Crookshanks, Matt Crookshanks, Zach Crookshanks, and Ryan Mayo; 4 great grandsons: Robbie, Leo, Kholsen, and Torbyn and a number of nieces and nephews.

In keeping with her wishes her body has been cremated.

A gathering for family and friends will be held Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Alleghany Humane Society at 9313 Rich Patch Road, Covington, VA 24426 or the Angels of Assisi at 415 Campbell Ave., SW Roanoke, VA 24016.
