Longtime Former Lexington Sherwin Williams Store Manager Dies At Age 67

Hubert James Armstrong went to be with The Lord on Wednesday, November 28, 2018.

Hubert was born the son of Hubert Lee Armstrong Jr. and Dorothy Sorrells Armstrong on December 15, 1952 in Lexington, where he lived his entire life.

Hubert worked at the Lexington Sherwin Williams store from the time he was in high school until he retired 43 years later as store manager. At Sherwin Williams, he enjoyed working with people and believed in treating others the way he would like to be treated. Hubert also served others through his church, Lauderdale A. R. Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and in several other capacities.

Hubert was an avid hunter and outdoorsman who also enjoyed fishing, gardening, pickleball, and anything else he could do outside. He liked working with his hands and also was passionate about woodwork. Most of all, Hubert was a family man. He showered his family with service, patience, and love. He loved children and one of his greatest joys was helping to take care of his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nadine Beverly Armstrong; his children; Lisa Keesee (husband, Abbott) and Nathan Armstrong (wife, Misty); his sister, Gloria O'Donnell (husband, Barry); and his grandchildren, Graceon, Thomas, Elleigh Jay, William and Catherine.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, December 3, 2018 at the Lauderdale ARP church by the Rev. Benjamin Dowling. Burial will follow at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Harrison Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lauderdale ARP Church, 300 S. Main Street, Lexington, Virginia or Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers Street, Lexington, VA.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory.
