Matthew Wayne Wilmer, 38, of Fairfield, Virginia passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at his home.

He was born May 7, 1980 in Staunton, a son of Steven Douglas Wilmer and Bonnie Clemmer Wilmer.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Leo Clemmer, and paternal grandparents, William and Nancy Wilmer.

Matthew was a member of New Beginning Church and a previous member of South River Fire Department for 22 years. He currently was a member of Rockbridge Baths Fire Department. He loved his cattle and farming and had worked for Rock Bottom Dairy.

In addition to his parents, also surviving are his wife, Candice Sue McCormick Wilmer; children, Dylan Wayne Wilmer, Jenna Nicole Golden, Trevor Golden, William Owen Wilmer and Ella Gibson; siblings, Pam Wilmer Whorley (Brad) and children, Emilee and Hailee of Fairfield, and Benjamin Douglas Wilmer (Jamie) and children, Jonathan and Brooke; maternal grandmother, Mary Catherine Clemmer, all of Fairfield; uncle, Dean Clemmer and wife, Liz of Kilmarnock. In addition to his immediate family, Matthew was survived by numerous close friends.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2018 at Harrison Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Brandon McClung and Danny Groah. Burial will follow at Fairfield Cemetery. Friends may gather with the family from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, December 16 at Harrison Funeral Home.
