Obituary for Dorothy Hedrick Sarber Dorothy Hedrick Sarber
Lewisburg Native Dies At Age 82

Dorothy Hedrick Sarber passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 10, 2018 at the age of 82.

She was born on September 25, 1936 in Lewisburg, West Virginia to the late Curtis and Alma (Irons) Hedrick.

She was a graduate of Lewisburg High School and McMillan School of Nursing in Charleston, WV.

A natural leader, she was the first woman Moderator of the First Baptist Church of Freehold, NJ and an Elder at Community Presbyterian Church in Pinehurst, NC. She was President of the Garden Club in Pinehurst, though she always swore she had a brown thumb.

An RN, Dorothy loved nursing, especially surgery and obstetrics. She was a tireless volunteer, loved skiing, golf, bowling and travel. But the most important thing to her was family.

Dorothy was the loving wife of Robert Sarber and devoted mother of: Susan Emerson (Dan) Ansel of Cincinnati, OH and Robert (Hana Tekaste) Sarber, Jr. of Ligonier, PA; grandmother to Ryan; sister to Betty Hedrick (Bill) Jacobson of Herndon, VA and William C. (Linda) Hedrick of Virginia Beach, VA; aunt to Bill, Susan, Valerie, Ellen, Curtis Jacobson and Chris Hedrick. She is also survived by her step-grandchildren Aaron (Mai), Ben (Dianna) and Emilie Ansel and numerous beloved great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

It was quite common for her children's friends to call her mom and she considered them all "her kids."

It is said that people will forget what you did, people will forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel. Dorothy made everyone who knew her feel special, because that is truly what they were to her.

Family, friends and others whose lives were touched by Dorothy are invited to celebrate her life at one of two memorials:

Visitation at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Lewisburg Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 10 – 11:30 a.m. with a Graveside Service at New Lebanon Cemetery at 12:30 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service, Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Old Stone Presbyterian Church, officiated by Pastor Anna Pinkney Strait.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the following charities on behalf of Dorothy Hedrick Sarber: Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) or Maple Knoll Future Care Fund, Contact Michelle Zeis, Donor and Corporate Relations Specialist, 513-782-8629.
