Irene Blazek Horkott, 92, formerly of Binghamton, N.Y., passed away December 29, 2018 in Lexington, where she had lived for about 10 years.

Irene was predeceased by her husband, John Horkott.

She is survived by her sister, Alice Richwine of Lexington; her niece, Amy Richwine (Dan Walz) of Lexington; her niece, Beth Richwine (Randall Cleaver) of Takoma Park, Md., and nephew, David Richwine (Liliana Richwine) of Yorktown, and their families.

Irene was born January 21, 1926 in Moravski Jan, Czechoslovakia, and immigrated to Binghamton with her parents Michael and Mary Blazek in 1930. She graduated in 1943 from Binghamton Central High School and with a BS from Syracuse University in 1947.

She originally taught school and then she and her husband, John owned the Horkott Insurance Agency for many years in Binghamton, N.Y.

At Irene's request, there will be no memorial service. Burial will be at a later date in Vestal Hills Cemetery in Vestal, N.Y.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Irene may be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice, Rockbridge Area Relief Association, or the Staff Appreciation Fund at Kendal at Lexington.
