Obituary for Rev. David Robbins Ellis Rev. David Robbins Ellis
Marine Corps Veteran Was Teacher, Longtime Presbyterian Pastor

Rev. David Robbins Ellis, 84, died Sunday, January 20, 2019 in the Springs Nursing Home at Hot Springs, Virginia.

Rev. Ellis was born April 10, 1934 at Rangeley, Maine, the son of Ardine G. and Mattie Robbins Ellis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Judith Spofford Ellis in 1998 and by a sister, Diane Ellis.

He served in the United States Marine Corps in the 1950s.

He graduated from Farmington State College in Farmington, ME, and taught school in Maine and Florida until 1977 when he entered Theological Seminary at Erskine College in South Carolina.

He pastored churches in South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. He pastored Johnson Creek AR Presbyterian Church in Alleghany County and retired from Garrson Memorial AR Presbyterian Church in Bessemer City, NC.

He was a member of the Lions Club and a former chaplain at Alleghany Regional Hospital. In his younger days he was a volunteer firefighter and had an enjoyment for reading western books and was an avid baseball fan.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Lovell Ellis of Maine; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Melody Ellis of Burke and Mark and Jennifer Ellis of Covington; one daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Wayne Boyd of Holden, ME; six grandchildren. Patrick Ellis, Wesley Ellis, Ashley Ellis, Stephen Boyd, Chad Boyd and Lindsay Bennett; several great grandchildren; two brothers, Larry Ellis of Florida and Timothy Ellis of California and several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated.

A service will be conducted at a later date.

The family suggests that donations in his memory be made to the Alzheimers Association, P. O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
