Obituary for Eldridge (Shag) Wooding Eldridge (Shag) Wooding
Covington Native Was Korean Conflict Veteran, White Sulphur Springs Resident

Eldridge (Shag) Wooding, 88, passed away peacefully at his home among family and friends on February 12, 2019, following a brief illness.

A long-time resident of White Sulphur Springs, WV, Eldridge was born the youngest son of Erastus and Clarabell Wooding of Covington, Virginia.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Swann Wooding of White Sulphur Springs, to whom he was a devoted husband for 61 years.

Eldridge retired as a saucier at The Greenbrier Hotel and was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Eldridge and Barbara had five children, four of which survive him including Judy Gregory (Dave) of Chesapeake, VA, Troy Wooding (Mia) of White Sulphur Springs, WV, Tracy Gilchrist (Keith) of Jacksonville, NC, and Gregg Wooding, of Wylie, Texas. He was a doting grandpa to 17 grandchildren and great grandchildren.

On Saturday, February 16, the public is invited to join the family during a visitation from 1-2 p.m., directly followed by a celebration of life service at 2 p.m.. Both events are being held at St. James United Methodist Church, where donations honoring Eldridge's life and dedication to his Christian faith are being accepted for the church's Seed Can ministry. The address is 268 Church Street, White Sulphur Springs, WV 24986.
