Obituary for Lorin A. Wiseman Lorin A. Wiseman
Former Alleghany County Resident Was Widely Traveled

Lorin A. Wiseman, 77, a resident at the Borden Nursing Center at Kendal at Lexington, Virginia, died Thursday, February 21, 2019 from complications related to dementia and pneumonia.

He formerly resided at 3220 Longdale Furnace Road, Clifton Forge.

Lorin was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the son of the late Merrill R. Wiseman and Beryl Barnum Wiseman.

His three siblings preceded him in death. He spent most of his childhood in Winter Park, Fla., graduating from Edgewater High School in Orlando in 1959. He then enlisted in the U. S. Army, serving four years on active duty, with a tour of duty in Nuremberg, Germany.

Following his discharge from the Army, he worked as the paymaster for the Lucayan Beach Hotel in Freeport, Bahamas, for several years before enrolling at the University of Miami, graduating with a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting in 1970. He subsequently earned an master of business administration from Southeastern University in Washington, D.C., in 1977.

He entered federal civil service in Washington, D.C., in 1968, serving six years with the Internal Revenue Service, followed by six years with the Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation, and 17 years as a senior investigator in the Inspector General's Department of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, retiring in 2001.

Upon his retirement he moved to Alleghany County, where he lived for 14 years before entering Kendal at Lexington.

Lorin and his life partner, Paul E. Cormier, traveled extensively over the past 14 years, cruising on the many rivers in Europe and the U.S., and visiting most of the countries in Europe, to include four trips to Russia.

The funeral will be held at Harrison Funeral Home on Monday, February 25, at 5 p.m., with Fr. John Adamski presiding. The service will be followed by a reception at The Bistro on Main, 8 N. Main St, Lexington. Burial will take place at the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery in Lexington, on Tuesday, February 26 at 3 p.m. with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Kendal at Lexington.

Lorin was of the Presbyterian faith and is survived by his life partner of 37 years, Paul E. Cormier.
