Former News-Gazette Reporter, Circuit Court Judge Secretary Dies At Age 50

Tamarlane (Tammy) Louise Jarvis Hamilton of Natural Bridge, the wife of James C. Hamilton, died February 28, 2019.

She was born September 8, 1968 in Nassawadox, the daughter of Mary M. Jarvis of Lexington and the late Leon Bradford Jarvis.

Tammy was a member of Collierstown Presbyterian Church and had served as moderator of its Presbyterian Women as well as historian. She also served the church as an edler and Sunday school teacher. She was a 4-H All Star.

Tammy retired from Botetourt County as secretary to The Honorable Malfourd W. Trumbo in February 2012. Her first career was a reporter for The News-Gazette from 1990-1999. She was a 1990 graduate of Virginia Tech and 1986 graduate of Lexington High School.

In addition to her husband and mother, Tammy is survived by her brothers, Brad Jarvis of Radiant, Brian Jarvis and his wife, Laura Brown Jarvis, of Millwood; a niece, Kelly Jarvis of Radiant; her godson, Baron Wilson; her stepchildren and their families, Chad and Elizabeth Hamilton, Colin, Jacob and Ryan of Rockbridge County; Chris and Amanda Hamilton, Lindsey and McKenzie of Buena Vista and Andy and Lisa Hamilton, Maison and Jada of Rockbridge County, many loving aunts and uncles, lots of wonderful cousins, all who loved her dearly.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Collierstown Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Kevin Channell. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Collierstown Presbyterian Church, 31 Church Drive, Lexington, VA 24450; Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers Street, Lexington; or the ALS Association, 30 W. Gude Drive Suite 150, Rockville, MD 20850.
