Stephen J. Rumbaugh, 78, of Lexington, Virginia died Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville after a brief illness.

Steve, as he was known by his friends and colleagues, was born to Howard and Jeanice Rumbaugh in Bridgeport, Conn.

He graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor's degree in business, then worked for the Simmons Bedding Company for over 30 years.

Steve was an avid golfer and no Saturday was complete without watching his Nittany Lions take the field on those golden afternoons during college football season.

Together, he and Jenny traveled to many wonderful locations, and Lexington became their retirement home because of the beauty and rich history of the area.

Steve leaves behind Jenny, his wife of 34 years; his children, Eric (Tracy) Rumbaugh, Sean Rumbaugh, Jeffery (Jessica) Rumbaugh, Melissa (Dwayne) Hostetler, Michael (Lisa) Latkovic; grandchildren, Christa Rumbaugh, Alicia Rumbaugh, Jacob Hostetler, Angelina Latkovic, Emma Latkovic; and great-grandchildren, Violet Latkovic and William Latkovic. He is also survived by his brother, Brian Rumbaugh; and sisters, Sue Rumbaugh and Judy (Tim) Montgomery.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Gretchen Vasquez.

Cremation has taken place and no funeral service is planned at this time.
