World War II Veteran Was C&O Railroad Retiree, Central Advent Christian Church Member

Donald Clive Fridley, age 93, of 1618 Cowpasture River Highway, Millboro, Virginia died early Saturday, July 27, 2019 at LewisGale Hospital- Alleghany, Low Moor.

He was born January 13, 1926 in Clifton Forge, Virginia to the late Ernest Lee and Nannie Mae Hornbarger Fridley.

He was a retired Supervisor in the Car Department of the former C & O Railroad and had worked for the RF & P Railroad.

He was a member of the Central Advent Christian Church, a member of the Potomac Hunt Club in Bath County and loved to hunt and fish.

He served in the U. S. Army during World War II achieving the rank of sergeant.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Ann Fitzgerald Fridley in 2010; a son-in-law, Jeffrey Hostetter; three brothers; Courtney Lee Fridley, Rodney Emmerson Fridley and Tommy Fridley.

He is survived by a daughter, Constance "Connie" Hostetter of Bumpass, Virginia; a sister, Margie Miller Taylor of Charlottesville; three grandchildren, Donna Lynn Ann Hostetter, David Hostetter, Dustin Hostetter; five great grandchildren; a special best friend, Wayne Wilson of Hubert, North Carolina; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Gene Ayers officiating. Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by members of the Curtis A. Smith VFW Post #1033.

The family will receive friends Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
