Covington Businesswoman Dies At Age 69

Doris Harmon Bowers, age 69, of Covington, Virginia died Tuesday, July 30, 2019, peacefully at her home.

She was born November 12, 1949, the daughter of the late Otis Wingo and Grace Marie Harmon.

Mrs. Bowers was the owner and operator of Texaco Potts Creek Grocery, owner of KCD’s Beauty Shop and was a personal care giver for several years.

Doris taught at Highlands Beauty Academy for over ten years. When Doris wasn’t working, she spent her time with her family and socializing with friends. She enjoyed reminiscing of the times passed, discussing current events and making sure to give her opinion, whether you wanted it or not! She was an avid collector of souvenir spoons and Disney collectables. Doris loved camping and reading long novels.

Doris is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, David L. Bowers and her children; three daughters, Crystal Stone Galyon and husband, Jonathan of Covington, VA., Kelly Stone Johnson and husband, Crist of Covington, VA. and Lisa Ash and husband, Paul of Geneva, Florida; a son, Davie Bowers and wife, Jessica of Covington, VA.; twelve grandchildren, Kayla Stone, Chance Stone, Syndall Moats, Crista Johnson, Mayken Johnson, Boyd Johnson, Tori Bowers, James Bowers ,Jace Bowers, Dorothy Ash, Pauly Ash and Brian Ash; two great grandchildren, Brayden Caldwell and Charlie Eddy; two sisters, Jeanie Klimara and Brenda Cesario, and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bowers is preceded in death by three brothers, Calvin Harmon Sr., Dalford Harmon and Otis “Dubby” Harmon; two sisters, Nancy Gauntt and Sylvia Fleener; one brother-in-law, Steve Klimara.

“The idea is not to live forever but create something that will”, a quote by Andy Warhol, that best sums up the life and legacy of Doris.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 2nd, 2019 from the Chapel of Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. Lynn Wright officiating.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home. Arrangements are being handled by Loving Funeral Home, www.lovingfuneralhome1913.com.
