Obituary for James Frederick (Freddie) Martin James Frederick (Freddie) Martin
West Virginia Native Worked With WestRock For 49 Years

Mr. James Frederick (Freddie) Martin, age 73, of Covington, Virginia died Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke.

He was the husband of Janet Kay Carter Martin.

Mr. Martin was born December 2, 1945 in Princeton, WV, the son of the late Fred Marshall Martin and Audrey Alice Meador Martin.

He was employed by WestRock for forty-nine years before his retirement.

Freddie loved hunting and watching sports especially the West Virginia Mountaineers. Mr. Martin especially enjoyed spending time with his family in Myrtle Beach, SC and Nags Head, NC. He was a member of Newcastle Church of Christ.

In addition to his wife, Janet Kay Carter Martin, Mr. Martin is survived by two sons, James Daniel Martin and wife, Ivory of Roanoke and Frederick Dean Martin and wife, April of Roanoke; a daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Cantley-Beckner of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Matthew Cantley of Nashville, TN, Brandon Martin of Roanoke, Jordan Graybil of Roanoke, Auria Martin of Roanoke and Lauren Beckner of Roanoke; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parent, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Martin Hill. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at Covington Church of Christ, with James Daniel Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to SPCA, 1340 Baldwin Avenue NE, Roanoke, VA 24012 or Newcastle Church of Christ, 282 Salem Avenue, New Castle, VA 24127.
