Obituary for Roy Delbert Powell Roy Delbert Powell
Vietnam War Veteran Worked With Lee's Carpets, Modine And Munters

Roy Delbert Powell, 76, of Natural Bridge Station, Virginia went to be with the Lord on July 29, 2019, passing away in Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem.

Roy is survived by his wife of 50 years, Donna Reynolds Powell; four sons, William Joseph Powell of Lexington, Jason T. Powell of Stanley, Joshua N. Powell of Natural Bridge Station, and Cody Malcolm Powell of Natural Bridge Station. Additionally, he is survived by two daughters-in-law, 10 grandchildren, a brother and sister-in-law, nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Roy proudly served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1966, earning the rank of E-4 specialist. After being honorably discharged from the military, Roy married his wife on December 21, 1968.

He worked 10 years at Lee's Carpets of Glasgow, before beginning work at Modine of Buena Vista. Beginning his career as a welder, Roy worked at Modine for 17 years, starting as a spray painter, and then Munters of Buena Vista for 29 years as a welder.

Roy was a member of Humble Beginnings Church and served as a deacon there as well as helping with various other activities. Roy enjoyed simple things in life and had a great love for his work as a welder, spending time with his family, watching Fox News, mowing, and spending time outdoors at home and at Smith Mountain Lake.

Services were held Saturday, August 3 at Glenwood Holiness Church in Natural Bridge Station with the Rev. Randy Smith officiating and words from the Rev. Carol Garrett. Graveside services were private.

Cards and flowers can be sent to the home and guests are being received through the week.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
