Former Clifton Forge School System Employee Dies In Lexington

Carolyn Bailey Dunlap, 89, of Lexington, Virginia died Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at Benjamin Borden Health Center.

Born May 3, 1930, in Richmond, she was a daughter of the late Leon Wren Bailey and Helen Hunter Leech Bailey.

Mrs. Dunlap was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Walter McCown Dunlap, and brother and sister-in-law, Wren and Beverly Bailey.

Carolyn graduated from Lakeview High School in Winter Garden, Florida in 1947. She attended Mary Washington College and the Pan American Business School. Her working years included secretarial and accounting positions at VMI, Clifton Forge school system, Southern Seminary College and The News-Gazette. Carolyn was a member of the New Monmouth Presbyterian Church. Her favorite pastimes were traveling, especially cruises, reading and playing bridge.

She is survived by a daughter, Karen Dunlap Price and husband, Scott; son, Robert Walter Dunlap and wife, Vivian; and two grandchildren, Caroline Valerie and Margaret Dunlap.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, August 10 at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Casey Clark officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the SPCA, P. O. Box 528, Lexington, VA 24450 or your favorite charity.
