Pastor DeLawrence Asberry Godfrey, Jr., 72, of 1109 Spring Street, Eagle Rock, Virginia died Thursday, August 29, 2019 at his residence.

He was born September 13, 1946 in Eagle Rock, Virginia, a son of the late DeLawrence Asberry Godfrey, Sr. and the late Bernice Burks Godfrey.

He was an ordained minister serving the Jackson Memorial Church of God in Christ in Iron Gate, and also a retired machine operator for CSX Transportation.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Myra Davis Godfrey.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday September 5, 2019 at Gospel Tabernacle Church of God in Christ in Covington. Entombment will immediately follow in the mausoleum of Alleghany Memorial Park, in Low Moor.

Crypt side military honors will be provided by the Curtis A. Smith VFW Post #1033. His family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge.
