Clifton Forge Native Was Garten Trucking Dispatcher

Walter Vermilya Kern, age 55, of 80 Sharon School Circle, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Saturday, October 12, 2019 at LewisGale Medical Center in Salem.

Walter was born June 15, 1964 in Clifton Forge to the late Robert Cecil Kern, Jr. and Mildred Herron Kern.

He was a dispatcher for Garten Trucking in Low Moor.

Walter was raised in the Pentecostal Church.

He is survived by two sons, Brandon Scott Kern and Cameron Nathaniel Kern and his girlfriend, Emily Kinsey; a sister, Jane Kern Thomas and husband, Robert; a brother, Alvin "Amos" Kern, Sr. and wife, Annette; three grandchildren, Brayden Kern, Gracelyn Kern, and Georgia Kern; special mother of his grandchildren, Tiffany Wilson; a number of nieces and nephews; two special companions, Chico and Diablo; and two grand pups, Zoey Rae and Chevy.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with the Reverend Grover Nicely officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. and other times at the home of Cameron Kern and Emily Kinsey, 4017 Longdale Furnace Road, Clifton Forge.
