Longtime Spring Valley Baptist Church Minister Dies At Age 85

The Rev. Phillip Dale Mace, 85, of Lexington, Virginia died Sunday, October 13, 2019 at Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

Born March 28, 1934 in West Virginia, he was a son of the late Robert Dale Mace and Ina Mae Davis Mace.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline Huffman Mace; daughter-in-law, Angie; and brother, Jerry R. Mace.

The Rev. Mace was the minister at Spring Valley Baptist Church for 48 years. While pastoring the church, Phillip owned and operated Fairfield Grocery Store for several years.

Surviving are his children, Perry D. Mace of Fairfield, Rhonda Mace Doody (Dan) of Crozier, and Phillip Mark Mace (Susan) of Staunton; sister, Blanche Tomlin of Fairfield; six grandchildren, Mackenzie, Johnny, Scott, Sydney, Collin and Conner.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 17 at Harrison Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Luther Witt officiating. Burial will follow at Collierstown Presbyterian Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Spring Valley Baptist Church Missions Fund, 411 Mackeys Lane, Fairfield, VA 24435.
